A recent study published in the journal Radiology assessed the ability of 17 radiologists to distinguish between real and AI-generated (deepfake) X-ray images. The results indicated that the radiologists were successful approximately 75% of the time. STAT reporter Katie Palmer, who is not a trained radiologist, also participated in the quiz and achieved a similar score. In the latest episode of the STATus Report, host Alex Hogan discussed these findings with Palmer and explored the implications of AI on patient safety. Hogan also attempts to match or surpass the scores of the radiologists and Palmer.
